Welcome to the 2014-‐2015 school year! I hope that all of you had a wonderful summer filled with lots of enjoyment, as well as rest and relaxation. What an amazing journey we had last year! Being named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and a Distinguished Title 1 School were tremendous accomplishments for our school, and our performance on the SOLs was another great example of the hard work and dedication of everyone in the CES family. We would like to welcome back our returning students and welcome our newcomers to the Bulldog family. Our teachers and staff are ready to Engage! with students as they embark upon the amazing journey of education in the new school year ahead.
Our theme this year is “We’re WILD About Learning,” and as I venture into classrooms each day, I know that I will see students, teachers, and staff excited about the teaching and learning that is going on each day. Our students’ enthusiasm for learning is contagious! It inspires inquiry and motivation to learn more and to be the best students they can be. We are committed to continuous improvement as we work to meet the needs of all of our students in order to ensure their success. Since the success of our students and our school is a team effort, I want to thank you in advance for your continued support of our students and our teachers. If you have not already done so, please consider joining our PTA, as another way of supporting our school, and we look forward to seeing you at events in the future.
Here are a few reminders that will help keep up with our school routine:
Parents of students in grades 3-‐5 should sign up for the PowerSchool Parent Portal to review your child’s
grades and academic progress, if you have not already done so. More information can be found on the
division website (www.iwcs.k12.va.us/page/powerschool/) or in our school’s main office.
Sign up for the division’s Connect 5 messaging system to receive messages about things happening in our
school, as well as from the division about division-‐wide updates, inclement weather closings, etc.
Visit our school’s website for more information about school hours, attendance policy, lunch prices, etc. at
The mission of Isle of Wight County Schools and Carrsville Elementary is to prepare our 21st century learners for educational excellence. CES teachers and staff are more than prepared to meet this challenge head on as we guide students toward achieving academic success and encourage critical thinking, problem solving skills, and positive character traits along the way.
Remember, your child’s academic success takes teamwork and my door is always open to make sure that it happens. This is going to be a positive and engaging school year at Carrsville Elementary! We look forward to working with you and your child to ensure a productive and safe learning environment that promotes the highest levels of student success.
